A wall mount is a bracket, fixed to wall studs or a solid masonry wall, that holds a television using the threaded holes on its back rather than a stand on furniture. Mounting a TV this way can save floor space, allow a lower, more comfortable viewing height, and give a cleaner look with cables routed inside or along the wall.
Wall mounts come in a few main types: fixed mounts that hold the TV flat and close to the wall, tilting mounts that angle the screen down slightly, and full motion mounts that can swing the screen out and turn it, useful when seating is off to one side. Every mount is rated for a maximum weight and uses the VESA pattern on the back of the television, so checking both figures against the specific TV model matters before buying.
Because a mount is only as secure as what it is fixed into, finding solid studs or using appropriate wall anchors is essential, and a heavier television benefits from a helper during installation. See our guide to wall mounting a TV for a full walkthrough.
